The Taped Paintings are composed of multiple canvases, bound together by tape (made archival*) An attempt to reconcile multiple elements into a unified whole, offering a provisional solution with a result that hovers between the two states between image and object, illusion, and physicality. Unifying the use of the canvas as carrier and compositional elements and the line of tape as a pictorial element, as well as a pragmatic mechanical, bonding device, caught in an inter-space between thing and representation.

The task of generating a replica tape, forms part of the process. By re-manufacturing quantities of gaffa- or stage tape myself, using artist-grade materials such as pigment and a variety of acrylic polymers and mesh, I’m able to reconstruct the tape as a long-lasting material to frieze the temporal, improvised state of a non-permanent material into a permanent and lasting composition.
